Fire hazards: Check your smoke detectors!

Being a retiree and living alone or with your partner means that you need to be on top of checking if your smoke and gas detectors are working properly! Given that we are talking about the holiday season, keeping safe during this time of the year definitely includes the likes of these detectors, as they can save you in case something catches fire.

With how much baking, cooking, and decorating you will have to do, you can never know if something happens by accident and you miss the first signs of the smoke. By making sure that your smoke detector is in tip-top shape, you can rest assured that if it comes to the worst, you can catch it fast!

Generally speaking, if you want to stay safe over the year, you should have someone check your smoke detectors at least twice a year, and one of those times needs to be around the holiday season. This can be done by yourself, but if you do not want to risk getting up on a ladder or stool, you can have a family member, friend, or neighbor do it for you!
