Retirement Issue: Unplanned Early Retirement

One of the biggest retirement issues many older Americans face is being forced out of their workplace before they’re actually ready to leave. Health problems or a lack of employment options usually mean that retirement comes sooner than some people have planned.

This can bring up a number of financial concerns because it means you’ve had less time to save up and for your savings to be able to support you.

To be sure you aren’t left with a small nest egg because you have to retire sooner than you’d hoped, try setting your ideal retirement date for a younger age.

This way, you won’t be caught off guard if you have to resign early, and you will merely end up better off if you’re able to work longer.

If you’re already approaching your retirement age and you’re forced to stop working before you’re ready, you can still salvage what’s left of your retirement by making some big changes as soon as you can. A good example wold be downsizing to a more affordable home.
