3. Always do the research and compare prices.

In the moment, you may be overcome with emotions and forget about this. But a great way to cut down on funeral expenses is to make sure you get to compare prices. Unfortunately, there are some bad funeral homes that do not have your best interests at heart.

It is enforced by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) that funeral homes have to give you the prices for every product and service they provide. This means you can always request (if they haven’t shown you already) a detailed list of how much everything will cost, including alternatives.

So do not be shy about asking for the itemized list and choosing what works best for you.

To exemplify, when it comes to caskets, they can be one of the highest expenses you will have to pay. The funeral home should show you their general price list and let you choose the type of casket you want, so you can choose one within your budget and to the person’s liking.
