The money behind funerals

If you were not aware of it before, funerals end up costing, on average, anywhere between $7,000 and $10,000, depending on the type of funeral you are planning on having. These are just estimated prices, which may fluctuate, and they may even exceed these prices from situation to situation.

You may be wondering what is typically included in this price, and when you look at the most common types of funerals, we end up with the following list: A typical funeral in the United States has the following expenses:

  • The price of the funeral service;
  • The venue for the viewing and, separately, the venue for the ceremony;
  • The urn or casket;
  • The cost of cremation;
  • The cost of renting a vehicle that will transport the body;
  • The funeral plot and, separately, the headstone;
  • Cosmetic services for the deceased and, separately, embalming of the body.

This estimate is made without any other religious practices that may end up incurring extra expenses, along with the costs brought up by other family members and other people attending the wedding.

It is customary to help those who cannot attend pay for their transportation, along with any meals that may have to be served to attendees over the course of the wake, ceremonies, and actual burial.

Now that we have taken a look at what the funeral expenses incur, let’s see how we can bring them down!
