6 Things You’ll Regret Keeping in a Safe Deposit Box

#6 Spare Keys

Everybody possesses spare keys, which are only used in emergency situations. Spare car keys, house keys, safe keys, and filing cabinet keys are items we never require unless we lock ourselves out of the home or something we want to have access to.

Also, the worst thing you can carry in your wallet is a spare key. The information on your driver’s license and the key in your wallet serves as a free pass for burglars to search your house if your purse is ever stolen or lost.

So does keeping extra keys in the deposit box make sense? Not at all.

Consider this: You can only access your safe deposit box during regular banking hours, and then only if you have the key to the box on hand. Most people’s safe deposit box keys are hidden inside their homes, and if you’re locked out of your house at that moment, this will not help you.

Give a close family member or trusted neighbor your spare house keys. In the event that you ever lock yourself out of your home, you will be able to use your extra key as a result.
