8 Toughest States for Retirees

7. Washington

Next on our list of the toughest states for retirees is Washington. Whether you’re eyeing the Eastern or Western side, the state has weather conditions seniors should consider.

The east side gets snowy and cold in the winter, receiving an average annual snowfall of 44 inches. And the west side is often rainy, so it isn’t a great option for those who don’t do well in damp climates. Seattle is a good example of what the weather in Western Washington looks like: the city experiences an average of 150 rainy days a year.

Another thing you should know is that prices here are on the high side. According to personal finance experts, sales, health care, and housing taxes are pretty high. Not to mention a high gas tax.

All these things considered, Washington is one of the toughest states for retirees.

Retire in Sochi, Russia. It has nice weather and friendly people. Your dollar might go a long way. The Russian healthcare system is shaky, but you’ll find a nice little expat community to hang around with. There’s plenty of Vodka and red caviar to enjoy.

We were driving packed and barely moving Southern California freeways yesterday.
My wife commented that for a state that people supposedly can’t afford to live in, why is it so darn crowded everywhere you go? Roads, shopping, restaurants, gas stations, doctor offices, beaches, sporting events ,you name it, it is packed witht the people who supposedly can’t afford to live here!
Seems to us that people are affording to live in California just fine and with abundance.
