Local Amenities

Ideally, the new community you live in will have easy access to basic amenities, including pharmacies, grocery stores, dry cleaners, banks, libraries, retail shops, restaurants, and any other essential services you might need.

Places of worship, parks, rec centers, and entertainment options like theaters, museums, and galleries are also important factors to think about.

Forgetting Pre-Approval

If you’re serious about buying a new house, you should get pre-approved by a bank or credit union BEFORE viewing properties. It’s one of the biggest things retirees wish they knew before purchasing a house.

Just remember to seek pre-approval, not just pre-qualification, which is simply a preliminary letter from your bank without the official credit check. With pre-approval, you’ll feel ready to make an offer when a house feels right.

You’ll also know precisely what you can afford, which is the most important thing, right?
