Not enough workers

The downside of having too many beneficiaries when it comes to Social Security is that we also have a “not enough workers” issue. Even if the baby boom pushed a wildly significant increase of beneficiaries into the American system, the worker-beneficiary ratio seems to be dropping.

I know you’re probably wondering, How so? Well, the Social Security Trustees expect things to get even worse: they say that the ratio will drop from its current 2.8 to 2.1 by 2035. However, if the ratio keeps on dropping or if it remains at 2.1, Social Security might be permanently underfunded.
