New Mexico

When it comes to owning property in New Mexico, it may not be as cheap as some would expect (the average can go up to $250,000), but the other perks of living in the Land of Enchantment will definitely make up for it in no time. Retirees who have already been living here for a while cite a lot of benefits that you would definitely be thrilled about if you chose to make this step.

You cannot argue with the fact that the average cost of living index for the state is 90.6, which is really good, and while being an owner here is a bit pricier on average, it doesn’t deny the fact that other housing costs are very reasonable and cheap compared with other states. Not to mention, you may not want to buy, and renting is really affordable here, with utilities right behind them when it comes to costs. When looking at the national average, seniors who choose to come to New Mexico end up saving about 19.6% on housing and about 11.1% on utilities!

Medicare and other healthcare costs are very affordable, and grocery prices end up falling under the U.S. average, so this is another strong point for New Mexico! Not to mention, you can qualify for an $8,000 deduction if you are a retiree, despite the fact that the state does tax retirement income.

Do we need to rave about the great weather, amazing food, and landscape, along with the cultural importance of the area and all the recreational options you would have here? If we’ve piqued your interest already, you should probably do your research on the state and find out for yourself why it is such a new retirement hub!

If you cannot wait, read more about this amazing state here!
