Walking
Did you know that simply walking can have a deep impact on your health? Believe it or not, those who take brisk walks have higher life expectations. In fact, they might live up to 20 years more than those who prefer to be couch potatoes, as a Mayo Clinic study has proven.
Even more, the benefit is reachable by all types of people, no matter what body mass index they have, which is a medical measure of weight that accounts for height. In the end, you don’t need to be a Slim Jim or Skinny Minnie in order to reap the rewards of walking.
However, you do have to put some effort, as the researchers showed that brisk walking, meaning 3 miles per hour, or 100 steps a minute, is needed in order to access the life-extending perks.
Please, someone save me from plowing through all of this just to get to the list…list the 10 hobbies here for all of us to then determine if we want to read more about any of them.

Reading gardening cooking dancing meditating volunteering listening to music yoga- sorry I’m old, forgot the other too. Not that great of a list. Very run of the mill- I say add painting, woodworking, sculpture, take a stained glass class, go to a community college and sign up for something cool- crocheting, gather old t- shirts cut out favorite designs and make a quilt or take you r kids/ grandkids t shirts and do that. Build a chicken coop and get a few chickens 🐓 hope that helps. 🙂
I’m glad the study has dancing in it. I would add Square Dancing specifically because it’s something you actively have to read and study to be proficient. Also, an evening of Square Dance is equivalent to about a 5 mile walk. It takes team work, and listening skills to say the least.
None of my favorite activities were on the list. I build model airplanes, practice martial arts (4th degree black belt in taekwondo) and own three telescopes.
I just adopted a stray tiger striped cat. I named her Tigger. I’ve had her a couple of weeks now and kept thinking “Boy she’s really gaining weight.” Well turns out she’s pregnant so having a pet is great hobby for me.
Can’t wait to see how many she has!
I would add journaling, especially if one lives alone. It’s a great way to express thoughts and emotions that might not have another outlet. It can be themed for gratitude, setting goals or anything else.
I bead and enjoy it very much! Surprised that or sewing not on the list. Beads make me very happy.
