8. Maryland

If you live in Maryland, you will benefit from $1,624 per month. great, right? The same rule applies here as well. Why are these states included in a list with retirement benefits higher than other states? Because, according to a 2015 study, the median household income data from the U.S. Census Bureau, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, and Minnesota ranked fourth, fifth, first, and 12th respectively.

If people who are living in these states are earning more than the national average, then we should expect that they might have a higher monthly benefit when they retire.

9. Minnesota

Here in Minnesota, 807,380 seniors collect Social Security benefits. And the latest statistics show that seniors here typically receive $1,734.55 per month. Which is pretty good, right?

10. Indiana

In Indiana, retirees got an average of $1,622.82 per month last year. And 969,120 is the total number of retirees. That’s not the best compared to the previous states we’ve mentioned, which is why you might want to put some money away during your working years so you will have savings for retirement.

Social Security will increase by 6% and you will get $1,718.56 per month on average.
