#4 File electronically

When anticipating a tax refund, electronic filing is recommended. You can anticipate receiving your refund between three and six weeks earlier because the IRS handles electronic returns more quickly than paper ones. The waiting period is much less if you have your return instantly deposited into your bank account or IRA.

In addition to a quick reimbursement, e-filing has more benefits to offer. Your chances of filing a proper return increase since the IRS checks your return to ensure it is complete. Compared to 20% of paper returns, errors occur in less than 1% of electronic returns.

Even if you submit your paper refund by certified mail, the IRS still recognizes that it received your return. This aids in defending you against the interest and fines that may be incurred if your paper return is misplaced.
