6 Best and Worst States for Middle-Class Retirees

Compared to all three states mentioned above, the Garden State is relatively mild. As an illustration, this state checked in with the third-lowest overall income tax rate among all those with a board-based income. Sales taxes in this area are also below average.

In contrast, the state lowers people’s sales and income taxes while raising them when they purchase a home. The average home costs $362,917 to list, with a $1,874 mortgage payment each month. Unbelievably, New Jersey has the highest property taxes in the country.

    Cost of housing, taxers, etc. are all well and good. It is not, however, going to favor you to live in a state like Tennessee, which has more guns than any other state. Live in fear in your low rent house. No thanks.
