Alabama

When it comes to Social Security, you’ll never have to worry, as Alabama will never tax those benefits of yours. When it comes to other types of income, things change a bit.

In 2019, the state’s income tax rates for retirees were ranging from 2 to 5 percent, as the nonprofit Federation of Tax Administrators has stated.

Besides Social Security benefits, all of your retirement benefits from multiple types of federal and state agencies will also be exempt from Alabama, as the stated mentioned.

Alaska

The Last Frontier state is one of the seven states that don’t levy any income taxes, as FTA explained. So in case you’re considering moving to Alaska, you should check out the city of Anchorage.

Arizona

Arizona doesn’t tax Social Security income, as AARP concluded. However, when it comes to other types of income, individual income tax rates range from 2.59 to 4.54 percent.

But according to the state, up to $2,500 in pension income from the federal government, alongside the state of Arizona and the state’s political subdivisions, will be exempt from taxes.

I understand that the Maryland Legislature just changed how much retirees pay in income taxes. I have not been able to find out the specifics of the new law. When does it take effect? What are the income limits? Can I now reduce the State witholding from my Minimum Required Diatributions?
