3. Timeshares

First, let’s start by explaining what a timeshare is. A timeshare is basically an agreement that you will rent an annual vacation at a resort or property. It doesn’t sound too bad, but you need to know that these contracts generally last more than a decade, and it is really hard to get out of them. Sometimes they can even last for a lifetime!

This makes timeshares one of the worst assets to inherit. Even though you adore your timeshare, believe it’s a fantastic deal, and have many wonderful memories associated with it, be extremely cautious when considering passing it on to the next generation.

But think again before letting your kids inherit your time. The contract costs might increase, and because of this, there are many sellers who encourage people to always put their family members on the deed.

Generally, the heirs can make a formal disclaimer and decline to take the property. But they should be careful and don’t use it after the passing of the buyer, because this can prevent a successful disclaimer.

If you decide that you don’t want the timeshare anymore, you can try to get rid of it. Usually, this will work; it all depends on the company.
