1. De-cluttering your belongings

If you want to downsize for retirement, you have to do it wisely, because for most retirees, downsizing their home gave them much-needed economic relief and improved the quality of their golden years. And what would be the first step in this process? De-cluttering. Most probably, you’re tired of hearing this over and over again on every website that’s telling us to be more organized and get rid of the things that no longer serve us. But let me tell you a secret: It’s true!

If you have lived in your home for more than fifteen years, then you probably have a lot of stuff from you and your kids, and recently from your grandkids too. And sometimes it is hard to say goodbye to these memories, especially if they are special to you. But piles of clutter can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re close to retirement. So if you want to downsize and move to a smaller place, decluttering will make everything simpler. If you’re feeling sad about doing this alone, ask one member of your family to help you with the whole process.
