Don’t use your SSN as a password

Don’t use the entire SSN as your password. In fact, don’t use it at all. The password file might get stolen or decrypted, or you might have someone watch you type it in without even realizing it.

Don’t send your SSN via electronic devices

Whatever you might be doing, no matter how under pressure or stressed you might be, NEVER type your Social Security Number into one of your e-mails or instant messages and send it. Most of these messages can be easily intercepted and read.

Also, make sure you don’t leave any voicemails that might include your SSN. If you need to contact someone and give them your number, the best thing you can do is reach them on the phone and do it live.
