Americans Are Losing Their Food Stamp Benefits. Are You One of Them?

What Can Someone in Need Do?

If you’re a SNAP beneficiary (or know someone who is) and are worried about lost benefits:

  1. Check your state’s SNAP office website or contact your caseworker to see if your state has issued guidance or emergency funds.
  2. Use remaining benefits: If you have unspent EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) funds from October or earlier, many states advise using those carefully, as they may roll over.
  3. Locate food bank services: State and local governments are already mobilizing food banks and emergency nutrition assistance; many will soon see higher demand.
  4. Stay informed: Watch for announcements from your state’s Department of Health & Human Services or Agriculture agency about supplemental programs, state emergency nutrition assistance, or local support.
  5. Plan for shortfall: If benefits are delayed, budgeting becomes even more important. Prioritize essential food purchases, look for low‐cost nutritious options, and access community food programs when needed.
