2. New York

Another state that stands pretty high on the list among the worst for middle-class families is New York. In addition to the income taxes Yonkers and New York City levy, commuters who work in or near New York City must pay a commuter tax. As a result, for residents of such regions of the state, their total state and local income tax burden is higher. You could be familiar with the scenario and the truth that things start to get worse when you include sales taxes if you know individuals or if you live here. The tenth-highest state in the union is New York!

If these facts aren’t enough to convince you that New York is one of the most expensive states to live in, consider this: the median home list price is $281,025 in New York. With an average property tax of $4,860 for a $300,000 home in New York, this state has the sixth-highest property taxes nationwide. Yet, homeowners can spend more than twice that amount in some expensive regions of the state, such as Westchester County.

Cost of housing, taxers, etc. are all well and good. It is not, however, going to favor you to live in a state like Tennessee, which has more guns than any other state. Live in fear in your low rent house. No thanks.
