8 Toughest States for Retirees

5. Louisiana

Next on our list of the toughest states for retirees is Louisiana. While you won’t freeze here, like in Alaska or Wisconsin, you may melt. Not only are the summers hot, long, and oppressive, but the comfort level is also oppressive, muggy, and miserable for about six months of the year. And don’t think that running the A/C is cheap.

While Louisiana was once known for its low electric bills, financial experts say that electricity bills are predicted to rise by about 40% over the next decade. So seniors on a budget will definitely feel the squeeze.

Moreover, Louisiana doesn’t rate well for health care, making it one of the toughest states for retirees. If you move here, you’ll pay some of the highest insurance premiums, while access to health care and outcomes score below the national average.

By the way, to make sure you’re financially prepared for retirement, you have to develop a plan, and this guide can help you do that.

Retire in Sochi, Russia. It has nice weather and friendly people. Your dollar might go a long way. The Russian healthcare system is shaky, but you’ll find a nice little expat community to hang around with. There’s plenty of Vodka and red caviar to enjoy.

We were driving packed and barely moving Southern California freeways yesterday.
My wife commented that for a state that people supposedly can’t afford to live in, why is it so darn crowded everywhere you go? Roads, shopping, restaurants, gas stations, doctor offices, beaches, sporting events ,you name it, it is packed witht the people who supposedly can’t afford to live here!
Seems to us that people are affording to live in California just fine and with abundance.
