6. Check if you are available for the veteran’s special assistance

If you want to make your home safer as you age and you are a veteran, there is a chance to get some special assistance regarding this matter. For instance, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers Special Adaptive Housing Grants to veterans who were injured while serving in the military.

If you want to receive this grant, you should read about the criteria. The criteria include loss of or inability to utilize one limb or more, blindness in both eyes, severe burns, and breathing issues.

The maximum benefit available to qualified veterans this year is $22,036. Applying for this on the VA website is possible using your DS log-on.
