Utilities are far less expensive in Washington compared to the rest of the country. However, seniors and everybody else who lives there will spend more than the national average in almost every other cost-of-living category.

Housing and health care are also overpriced. Although the state does not have an income tax, so you will not be taxed on your Social Security or retirement income, you will confront significant sales taxes.

Many residents of the state also complained about the gloomy and rainy weather. Last October, Seattle received a record 19 inches of rainfall. If you have any health issues that may be aggravated by the humid climate, you might consider retiring somewhere else.
