Oregon has beautiful mountain views and fairly good quality of life – but only for seniors who can afford to stay there.

Oregon’s population has increased by more than 10% in the recent decade. However, the state still has less than 1.81 million housing units, which explains most of the state’s high cost of living. The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment was $1,114 in January 2022.

While Social Security income is exempted from taxation, income from other retirement funds is taxable at the state income tax rate.

The weather is pleasant until September, after which it is damp and chilly for 7-8 months and then, extremely hot for 2-3 months. Traffic is becoming a problem since all highways have three lanes, which is not enough to serve all of the people driving.
