Serious weight loss

Some symptoms can be seen clearly, including weight loss. Worse than that, if you can’t pinpoint what’s causing the weight loss, then it should be cause for concern. If you hug your spouse and she or he seems way thinner, then you might want to consider an underlying condition or something wrong with your lifestyle.

Maybe your spouse can’t really explain what causes the symptom, but just to take all precautionary measures, you might want to consider moving to an assisted living facility. What if they are unable to take care of themselves? Wouldn’t you want to consider making your life much easier?

An unkempt appearance that’s totally uncharacteristic

Another way in which you can monitor self-neglect is through personal hygiene. Of course, it’s worth mentioning that this could be caused by various things. You might want to examine why your loved one is increasingly taking less care of himself or herself than you were used to.

It could be the fact that some people tend to care less about their appearance as they get older, but you might want to watch for sudden changes in your spouse’s self-care routine. For instance, if your spouse used to comb her or his hair on a regular basis and now it looks all tangled and messy, something might be off.
