Lighting

Sometimes what retirees should look for when considering a new home isn’t so much what’s there but what needs to be added. And lighting is among the most important things. You should pay close attention to what time of day you’re viewing a home, as well.

Sometimes you see a property midday when the sun is out and don’t realize that certain rooms might not have many light fixtures! It was typical decades ago for custom homes to be built without light fixtures in the middle of a room and only have plugs for lamps.

Sometimes those plugs are connected to a switch on the wall so you can switch the lights on or off when you enter and leave a room. But is that really enough?

Association Fees And Rules

Is the house for sale in a community where you must pay homeowner association dues? Can you paint your front door your favorite color? If the home is in an association, all retirees should ensure they look into the fees and read through the bylaws.
