5. Idaho

This state is right in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. That means, if you are an outdoorsy type of person, you will feel like you are in paradise. Why do we say this? Well, Idaho has a lot of natural beauty to offer, from scenic landscapes with tall mountains to green plains that are waiting for you.

Also, the welcoming communities and the high quality of life make this state the fifth on our list and one of the happiest US states where you can live after you retire. The people of Idaho are extremely welcoming, and this can create a sense of belonging for any senior. Here, you can develop lifelong friendships with the help of the tight-knit neighborhoods and the Friday atmosphere.

For those who want to boost their savings, Idaho is an ideal place because it has a favorable tax environment for seniors. Social Security payouts are not subject to state income tax, which significantly eases seniors’ financial burdens.

The healthcare is excellent, the art scene is lively and ready to enrich your life, and the outdoor recreational opportunities are basically endless. There is no wonder why this state is one of the happiest US states!
