3. Certain Divorced Spouses

If you’re divorced, you may not be eligible to get retirement benefits (most common for full-time homemakers or stay-at-home parents who didn’t work). However, divorced people may be qualified to ask for Social Security benefits under certain circumstances. They can obtain it based on the ex-spouse’s earnings.

To do that, they must be single and 62 or older. Also, their benefits based on their own work record must not exceed their ex’s benefits (otherwise, they can claim their own Social Security benefits).

Still, if the marriage lasted less than 10 years, then they are not entitled to claim any spousal benefits. In such cases, I would recommend revisiting every insurance policy you have to make sure you have the best insurance plan for your needs. Over time, this can prevent new loans or credit card expenses!

So glad to hear of this income increase. So many people are barely making it due to the inflation increase since Covid.
