2. Worst assets to inherit? Physical property, especially if it has sentimental value

When we think of physical property, we mean items and household items. It is hard to divide them, and this can lead to many arguments between family members. Let’s say that they have to split the precious necklace that has been passed from generation to generation. How are they going to do that?

Even more, things like this, such as a piece of jewelry or a house, usually have symbolic values, and this adds even more emotion to the whole disagreement.

Physical property also has the drawback of being more difficult to assess. Experts discovered that people frequently overestimate the value of their jewels and antiques, thus creating unreasonably high expectations.

Also, when you buy jewelry, it is generally pretty expensive. When you decide to sell it, the value of jewelry begins to decline. Nowadays, antiques are not as popular as they used to be in the past.

On the other hand, always try to be careful and consult a specialist before you start to throw away things you have inherited. For example, if you have a wardrobe full of designer clothes, be sure that you can sell them for a lot of money.

Since they are some of the worst assets to inherit, organize your physical belongings as soon as possible to avoid problems. To avoid conflicts, be explicit about who will receive what. Sell what you don’t need while you’re still living; doing this might help everyone.
