Senior Housing Options No. 2: Aging in your house

If you have a home and like the state you are living in, this is one of the best senior housing options that exists. In case you think that your home is not suitable for a senior to live in, keep in mind that you can make some modifications and everything will be all set.

Install some grab bars in the bathroom or move the bedroom to the main floor; these are just a few ways you can make your place a comfortable one for seniors to live in.

If you are not sure what modifications are best or don’t have anyone to help you, there are organizations that can help you with home assessments and make recommendations.

These modifications are important because they can help an older person live in safe and suitable conditions. The practice of “aging in place” may involve more than simple house improvements; elderly Americans may eventually require in-home care. Workers in the personal care industry provide services including cooking, cleaning, and errand running.

All of these can cost some money, and if you need it, you can consider reverse mortgages. These are based on the equity of the home and are paid monthly. The house is often sold to repay the loan whenever the owner moves out or passes away.
