3. High healthcare costs

Another thing that doesn’t come free in retirement is definitely health care. And with this inflation, I’m afraid you’ll have to brace yourself for the worst! Healthcare is a significant expense for seniors, but many retirees are unaware of how much they will likely have to pay out of pocket because they believe Medicare will cover their needs. Well, bad news! Medicare won’t cover all the expenses, especially the big ones.

The average senior couple might realistically anticipate having to pay $300,000 or more out of pocket for their medical care during retirement. Which is a LOT! It’s crucial to save throughout your work, ideally in a health savings account (if you’re qualified for one), to be ready for such a significant payment. Our friendly advice is to save as much as possible during your working years! If that wasn’t possible because of various reasons, you should carefully shop for Medicare coverage that offers comprehensive protection if you’ve reached retirement age without specific assets set aside for medical expenses in order to minimize charges.
