2. Find someone who can help you

The National Association of Homebuilders’ network of Certified Aging in Place specialists, or CAPS, will help you locate remodeling specialists with experience in aging in place. This means you can get in touch with people who know exactly how to make your home safer as you age.

Before picking a contractor, read the reviews. You can do this at Angi.com. You should also confirm with your state’s licensing body to see if the employee is licensed. These are the safety measures you can use to be sure they will do a good job.

It might be difficult to renovate your home and prepare it for aging in place, but never hesitate to seek help from family and professionals if possible.

Make improvements for mobility, safety, and health if you’re one of the seniors who wants to remain in their home before you experience a health emergency. Make safety your top priority and create a list of the things you need to take care of first.

Even if it might cost you thousands of dollars to make this home renovation, keep in mind that, at the end of the day, it will be less expensive than assisted living. Most seniors don’t even see assisted living as one of the options.
