Trump has announced that he wants to distribute $2,000 payments to many Americans, funded by revenue collected from tariffs.

  • On November 9, 2025, he wrote on Truth Social: “A dividend of at least $2,000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone.”
  • The White House reaffirmed that Trump is committed to the idea of using tariff income for this dividend.
  • The timeline given: checks would be issued “somewhere prior to … probably the middle of next year, a little bit later than that.”
  • The intended target: “individuals of moderate income, middle income.”

In short, a cash payment to many Americans, funded by tariffs, planned around mid-2026.

I believe congress is partially responsible for the shortfall in the future of Social Security. How about congress earmarking this windfall toward giving Social Security a better future along with a revised plan to repay the national debt. I don’t believe congress is currently working on or concerned about the national debt.

I am an 84 year old widow who relies solely on Social Security and have very little savings. I could certainly use this money to give me a little stability and make things easier.
