Indiana

Why is this state on our list of the best retirement destinations in the Midwest?

Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne is one of the best retirement destinations in the Midwest because it has a low cost of living for retirees. The area also has a vibrant arts scene and is home to quite a few festivals throughout the year.

Plus, it’s a good choice for those who love the great outdoors because it’s in close proximity to three rivers: the St. Joseph, the St. Marys, and the Maumee. You’ll even have plenty of choices when it comes to miles upon miles of biking and hiking trails.

Carmel

At first, Carmel’s average home price may seem high, at roughly $320,400. But a brief glance at some of the fantastic perks of living in this lovely town will soon make that price seem a lot more affordable.

The first-class schools, low poverty and unemployment rates, next to very low crime levels, and surplus of parks and outdoor spaces, meanwhile, are hard to beat.

All in all, this is a perfect place to pack a picnic basket and spend some time in nature!
