3. St. Petersburg, Florida
Florida is that state that can’t miss any list of the best southeast cities for retirees. It’s simply impossible not to include Florida when it is such a popular state among seniors. And for good reasons: the weather is incredible, the costs are affordable, and people simply love this place. What else do you want?
St. Petersburg is a city with a population of 265,351 people. Of this number of residents, a staggering 41% are made up of people over 50. As you can see, this state is a hotspot for Baby Boomers and Generation X.
St. Pete is sunny most of the year and offers its residents the perfect combination of a big city and a city with beautiful beaches near the ocean. Perfect, right? Clearwater Beach is one of the best beaches you can explore in the area, and if you feel like you are ready for more adventure, you can try to go on a tour of Caladesi Island or Honeymoon Island.

So, retire where all the hurricanes and tornado dangers are at! Plus all the high humidity rates for us seniors! No thank you!
Aywhere you go there is bad weather. Snow, ice, floods, tornados in the mid-west. Don’t use the weather as an excuse.
I live in Asheville and we don’t get hurricanes or tornadoes and humidity is never that high. One of the best places to live
Sorry about your Ahseville NC choice.
I am 100% Anita.
My famiily and I moved to N. Carolina from Ct. last year and so far we love it!! the humidity level has been less than Ct. and the cost of living is a lot more affordable!!!
Knoxville is also where a World’s Fair was held in the 1980s, and it’s close to Oak Ridge, where the A-bomb was researched as part of the Manhattan Project. As for Ashville, have you forgotten about Biltmore, the largest private home in the US and built by the tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt?
Please send me the best cities to retire
Who wrote this Ashville just got washed away. Athens is a horrible place for seniors. You have to deal with all the partying and football games. Nobody wants to move to Florida. They are leaving down there because of hurricanes and government.
Trenton, FL
very lay back, weather is not cold it is not hot, lot of trees and lakes
Asheville, NC?? Really?? They’re still digging out after Helene. Proves that this websie is click bait.
Just looking for some place to just travel during the year send me some of that
I just want to travel during the year that’s all send me some places in the United States of course
Looking for a warm State on the East Coast….non-hurricane location if possible.
Retired Air Force MSGT . Widower (recent). If a Military Base is nearby so much the better but not a deciding factor. Looking for a comfortable, year round weather location.
Virginia Beach area familiar to me. Lived there for4 years and really fell in love with it. However maybe your suggestions might enhance my thinking.
I agree 100%, Anita. The Midwestern states, in some of the smaller cities and towns, like Monona or Verona, WI, are among the BEST places to retire. They are very health-conscious communities with walking trails, cycling trails, parks, and lakes throughout Madison, WI, and the suburbs.
