Why do people get retirement gigs?

It turns out that there are several reasons why people consider going back to work after retirement. One would be that seniors want or need an extra income besides their pension checks to fix or improve their house, help family members, or travel more often.

Some people may also experience a loss of purpose or identity without a routine or a job. Missing social interaction is another reason why people get retirement gigs. Others just really liked their job so much that they realized they wanted to keep doing it. Last but not least, some people see their golden years as an opportunity to finally follow their passion in a new field.

For the purpose of calculating your pension check, working after full retirement age is basically the same as working before. After all, you will keep paying Social Security taxes on the money you make as long as you work, so you still qualify to derive benefits from those earnings.
