Connecticut
Connecticut’s Social Security income tax might range from 3% to 6.99%. It all depends on the AGI and filing status, as retirees have the option to deduct the majority of their benefit income.
To be more specific, beneficiaries won’t have to pay state taxes on their benefits, as long as their AGI is less than $75,000 (for single filers), and $100,000 (for those who are married and filed jointly). Above the thresholds mentioned above, 75% of Social Security payments are completely tax-exempt.
Kansas
In Kansas, there’s no difference between Social Security benefits and other forms of income, so they’re all taxed the same, and the tax rate ranges from 3.1% to 5.7%. Even so, retirees with an AGI of more than $75,000 are exempt from paying state taxes on their Social Security income, no matter their filing status.
