#1 Look at those tax-friendly states
Unfortunately, this is the case. And some states are more friendly when it comes to getting social security benefits than others. This means that some states tax the income that you receive from your social security check less than others, and some do not at all.
This is truly important when you plan to make the most of your social security check, as the fewer taxes on that income, the more you can cover, and the longer you can stretch the check. States like New Hampshire and Alaska have no tax for income or sales, while others may have some for sales but do not impose taxes on pension income.
So if you’re living in states like Texas, South Dakota, Florida, Tennessee, Wyoming, Nevada, or Washington, you’re one of the lucky ones.

My insurance is to high for my home it takes almost half of my social security check.
I paid in close to the limit of social security for much of my life. Yes I took social security at 62 but my checks are less than $900 a month as it would not make my house payment. Thank goodness my retirement income is far in excess of that. I can’t imagine living on that alone.
