Indiana

Indiana was lucky enough to have a healthy budget surplus at the end of last year, so it easily authorized two rebates for all of its residents. In December 2021, Governor Eric Holcomb declared that Indiana taxpayers will get a $125 one-time tax refund after they finish filing their 2021 taxes.

Also, this doesn’t come with any income requirement. Residents need to have filed a state tax return for 2020 by January 3, 2022, but also a 2021 Indiana tax return by April 18, 2022, in order to be eligible.

Payments were initiated in May, as the state explained. Also, taxpayers who filed together might receive a single deposit of $250. There’s also a second rebate that was approved back in August, which grants another $200 for every taxpayer. The majority of taxpayers received the refunds by direct deposit.

The Colorado payments that you mentioned are not government stimulus payments. They are Tabor refunds, ie a government refund of overpayments that taxpayers had made. The voters in Colorado had passed a law several years ago that the state was not allowed to keep surpluses.
