Iowa

The state is currently at the top of the MoneyRates list, closely tied with West Virginia, as it scored the majority of points for its great nursing care capacity, well-established economy, and low crime rates.

Also, Social Security benefits aren’t taxed by the state, and starting in 2023, retirement income is fully exempt for taxpayers over 55 years of age. The overall cost of living is much lower than the national average, and there are plenty of outdoor activities throughout the year.

Delaware

Delaware has something you might not find anywhere else: a great combination of cultural opportunities in crowded cities, such as Philadelphia, New York, Washington, D.C., and Wilmington, and a beautiful coastline and wonderful beaches.

It is seen by many as one of the most tax-friendly states, as there is no sales tax, no state inheritance tax, and no Social Security income tax. Even more, there’s an exclusion for part of your retirement income.
