College instructor

Baby boomers who also have advanced degrees and many years of work experience in their own field could easily find a retirement job as a college instructor at any university, professional school, or even community college.

It seems that 4.1% of men and 1.4% of women took jobs as postsecondary teachers at 62 and older, as the Urban Institute discovered. Also, the Bureau of Labor Statistics expects a 15% increase in postsecondary teaching positions in the next three years. As a college instructor, the median salary on the current market is $78,470 per year.

Administrative assistant role

The few people out there who actually miss the buzzing activity of working in an office could pick up a full-time or part-time job as an administrative assistant. It seems that women prefer taking on office roles throughout their retirement, whether we’re talking of a secretary role or administrative assistant (5.9%), receptionists or information clerks (3.7%), office clerks (2.3%), or even bookkeeping and accounting clerks (1.9%).

Naturally, these positions might imply commuting to the office, but you might still be able to work from home as a virtual assistant. Also, the pay is a bit better for those who manage to become supervisors of office and administrative workers, which is a position that only 1.2% of newly hired older women prefer.
