It can cost you a lot even if your stay is limited.

We have discussed that your stays in nursing homes may not be forever, but even so, you need to be prepared that you are going to pay a pretty penny when it comes to staying in a nursing home. On average, the cost for a year in a private room can go up to $108,405, while for a shared room it goes down to almost $95,000. Before you let these prices scare you, know that they will obviously vary by location and depend on how long your stay is going to be.

For example, in certain parts of Louisiana, a private room can cost you a median price of around $65,000 for a year-long stay, while a shared room in the same location would be around $59,500. On the other end of the spectrum, if you are in certain parts of Alaska, you can expect the yearly cost to reach a high of $380,000.

Despite these prices, keep in mind that about half of all nursing home costs are covered by Medicaid since a lot of residents choose to invest in it since it will cover these costs. What’s more, if you are not going to be spending a lot of time in nursing homes, your costs will also be covered by Medicare if you are there for short-term rehabilitation. And even so, you should be prepared to see quite high prices when you are doing your research.
