Could You Really Get a $5,000 Check From the Government? Here’s What to Know Before You Count On It

The Full Timeline: How Many Times Has This Been Promised?

This isn’t the first cash promise of Trump’s second term. It’s the third. Here’s the sequence, in order:

February 2025 — The “DOGE Dividend” At a summit in Miami, Trump floated the idea of a “DOGE dividend”: returning 20% of the savings claimed by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency directly to taxpayers, an amount early promoters pegged at around $5,000 per household. No legislation or formal plan followed.

July 4, 2025 — DOGE Shuts Down The Department of Government Efficiency was dissolved. A later Government Accountability Office audit found DOGE could not verify 96% of its claimed grant savings, including $1.7 billion counted from a contract that had never actually been canceled. No DOGE dividend was ever paid.

July 2025 — The Tariff Rebate Idea Emerges As the DOGE dividend faded, Trump began floating a new idea: a $2,000 rebate funded by tariff revenue. Sen. Josh Hawley introduced the “American Worker Rebate Act” around the same time to give the idea a legislative vehicle.

This country need to see what is really happening, Trump is trying to align this country with Russia. Where the wealthy rule even if it cost the democracy. Intentionally destroying this economy as his family gains. The US is no longer a leader in the World and will never get back to where it was before Trump. Wars have mostly started with a Republican agenda. Make America Great Again means only the wealthy control not the people. Talk about communism what is worse outside or inside destruction by its own elected leaders. Since Trump has been in office the debt for main street workers has been in the Billions for Tax payers. Most all American military bases destroyed in the middle east while he continues to lie. Americas strength is it diverse culture, this is what Trump and Putin are using to weaken this country. We know what is in the Espstine files but sadly our values have fallen.
