Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Best Time to Visit: From April to June if you want to avoid the scorching summer temperatures.

If you’ve never visited the Grand Canyon in all its glory, now’s your chance! According to research, it’s the second-most accessible national park in our country.

In fact, out of the 133 trails at the Grand Canyon, 14 of them are wheelchair-friendly, making it an excellent option for older adults. Plus, the entire South Rim has a paved walkway that you can drive on.

The North Rim, however, should be avoided by older visitors because it takes a long drive to reach. Per the park’s website, the North Rim is commonly called the “other side” of the Grand Canyon and is only seen by 10 percent of this National Park’s visitors.

Another noteworthy point is that the Grand Canyon sees more seniors yearly than any other park. One reason may be due to the easy access to the Canyon Rim trail, which allows visitors to take in the canyon sights while walking on a flat, paved walkway.
