Catherine O’Hara was one of those rare performers who became more beloved with every decade. American audiences first met her on the Canadian sketch series SCTV, where she worked alongside Martin Short, Rick Moranis, and Eugene Levy in the 1970s. Then she became part of two films that have aired during the holidays in nearly every American household: Beetlejuice in 1988 and Home Alone in 1990, where her frantic “KEVIN!” became part of the national Christmas vocabulary.
Her later collaborations with director Christopher Guest in Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, and A Mighty Wind showcased her gift for improvised comedy, and her Emmy-winning turn as Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek introduced her to an entirely new audience. Catherine O’Hara passed away at the age of 71, having delivered laughs across five decades and three generations.
