Rob Reiner had two careers, and he was unforgettable in both. The son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, he first became famous as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on Norman Lear’s groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family, where his arguments with Archie Bunker became weekly appointment television throughout the 1970s. The role earned him two Emmys and made him one of the most recognizable faces in America.
Then he proved he had even more to offer behind the camera. As a director, he gave us This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men. It is a run of films that very few directors have ever matched, and they have become part of the comfort viewing of nearly every American household. Rob Reiner passed away at the age of 78, leaving behind a body of work that will keep making people laugh and cry for decades to come.
