New Court Ruling Could Mean IRS Refunds for Pandemic Tax Penalties (2020–2023)

What the Court Case Means

The court ruled that pandemic-related deadline extensions may have lasted longer than the IRS originally enforced—possibly extending into mid-2023, plus an additional 60 days.

If this interpretation holds:

  • Some IRS penalties and interest may have been charged too early
  • Affected taxpayers could be entitled to a tax refund claim
  • Millions could potentially recover money—but only if they act

    I always pay taxes every year because of investments earnings although I have Social Security monthly income to support myself, but it has decreased for last year and this year.
