Chicago, while not a conventional beach resort, is located on the shores of the massive Lake Michigan. The third most populated city in the United States has a plethora of big-city advantages. Nonetheless, housing in Chicago is less expensive than in comparably sized coastal cities.

A mortgaged property costs a median of $1,861 per month, while you may rent for a median of $1,092 per month. Chicago is lucky to have two hospitals on the U.S. News Best Hospitals list: Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Rush University Medical Center.

    1. You are absolutely right, Florida is no longer a good place to retire due to high insurance rates and taxes!

  2. Florida is no longer an inexpensive place to retire! The insurance for both homes and cars is off the hook here and taxes are also riding. Sales tax on everything is 7.5, property tax as well as infrastructure tax call CDD are high.
