Social Security Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2027

The SSA announced on October 14, 2026, that Social Security benefits and SSI payments for roughly 76 million Americans will increase by 3.6% in 2027.

This COLA increase means the average retired worker will see a boost of approximately $75 per month (rising from $2,095 to $2,170), beginning with January 2027 benefits.

The 2027 adjustment of 3.6% is higher than the 2.8% increase applied in 2026 and the 2.5% adjustment in 2025.

“Social Security will implement this cost-of-living adjustment for 76 million Americans, giving them greater financial stability,” SSA Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano stated in the official announcement.
